Heart of the Gun

Heart of the Gun

One of the 12 Westerns in 12 Months; Travers, a doctor who deserted his military post, searches the frontier for the wife who left him. His quest is thrown off course when he saves Sarah, a woman left for dead after a wagon raid. With the cavalry, the law, and deranged outlaws on their trail, Sarah and Travers set off together to find this missing woman. Heart of the Gun is a psychological thriller and a romance drama wrapped in a gritty Western setting.

Heart of the Gun was screened on day 4 at the Fort Myers Beach International Film Festival. This is the last of twelve movies made by filmmaker Travis Mills. He has astonishingly made twelve movies in twelve months, all of them Westerns. Unfortunately, the movie is very slow, lacks coherence, and is not really believable. The actors are amateurs and deliver poor performances.

The Ugly Truth was screened on the 5th and final day at the Fort Myers Beach International Film Festival. The movie deals with the problems and fragility of a small family that has to deal with the consequences of an unexpected visit. The cast features popular faces of German cinema, Lillie Liefers and Emma Schweiger. Unfortunately the movie was somehow a disappointment because it doesn't have great production values or a story that stays with you. It is still noteworthy for the budget it was made with and it is still a nice addition to a festival that attracts international filmmakers and gives space to a variety of genres.
