Nick Fury and Talos discover a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years.
Secret Invasion is rather what I have come to expect from US entertainment these days, that is, not a lot.
Take yet another formulaic story, vaguely reminiscent of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, throw in a dash of "watch out for those Russian's" sentiment, lots of special effects, that are admittedly, well done and parachute in a reasonably well known actor or two and hope it all works.
Without saying too much more, I was bored after 10 minutes and completely disinterested, after 20.Its not just the lack of originality either, its the absence of intelligent narrative and deep, meaningful, characterisations.
There are some really excellent contemporary sci fi series out there too, that offer lots of inspiration. German series "Dark", for example, is amazing. "Silo" is slow burn but again, it has something to offer the hungry sci fi viewer, beyond eye candy and things that go "zap or boom".
In summary, I personally found the first episode formulaic, basic and unoriginal. If you are new to this kind of action hero, sci fi mash up, you may like it but I suspect, for many veterans of the genre, it has little to offer.
I did not like this series at all. The acting is awful and the casts accents don't fit in with the tone of the show. Nick Fury has been made weak and pathetic compared to previous Marvel movies. Every scene has to "push the message" so much that it becomes severely obnoxious. The entire first episode is filled with too much tell and no show while trying to imitate Game of Thrones style world building. This show is worse than Eternals and MoonKnight combined. This doesn't event scrape a 1/10. Definately is not worth the time.
